Round 3 of the 2014-15 BPA For the People PBEM tournament has started. I have a need for players to play extra games as eliminators. These games count for AREA purposes and for tournament tie-breaker purposes. If interested, me contact me.
All Round 3 games have been set up and should be underway. This round ends on January 31, 2015.
46 players have signed up to participate in the 2014-15 BPA For the People tournament. Good luck to all participants!
FOR THE PEOPLE: While the 2013-2014 FtP tournament continues in its single elimination phase, the 2014-2015 FtP tournament is now accepting players for the Swiss phase which will begin by May 1, 2014.
Sign up now for the round starting May 1, 2014. Everyone plays six games in the Swiss phase, advancing 8 players to Single Elimination.
Sign up by posting a comment on the tournament format page here: https://forthepeopleqa.wordpress.com/ftp1415/
By now all Swiss games have been set up and should be underway. A reminder that both Swiss games need to be completed by October 31, 2013. Thanks again for participating and good luck in making it into the top 32!
With 82 signups for the current tournament, we set a record for participation. We can accommodate additional players through August 15, 2013 to ensure the absolute minimum time necessary to complete the 2 Swiss qualifying games by October 31, 2013.
Exceptions to this will be on a case by case basis.
Single Elimination among the top 32 players will begin after November 1, 2013.
Thanks for playing.
Welcome to the Preliminary Round of the 2013-14 For the People PBEM tournament. This round will end by October 31, 2013 and consists of two matches. Each player during this round must play at least two games: 1 as the CSA and 1 as the Union, if possible.
The matchups for the preliminary round are set and listed below.
Players receive 10 victory points for a win, the AREA rating of their opponents played using AREA records as of June 15, 2013, and the area rating of their opponents defeated. These are three separate category of points.
Top 32 victory point totals after the preliminary round advance to the first round of single elimination.
Ties are broken first by victory points, then by AREA points of opponents played, then by AREA points of opponents defeated.
I will continue to take signups for this tournament if I am assured that players can complete their match by the Oct 31, 2013.
If a player cannot start a game, they will be dropped and their opponent will be matched up a player who has also lost an opponent.
If no unmatched opponents are available, any player in the tournament can play as an eliminator. To volunteer as an eliminator, post a message to this page. Eliminators will be assigned as they are needed and no eliminator can play a second game as an eliminator until all eliminators have had the opportunity to play one game as an eliminator.
Preliminary Swiss Round Matchups
Thanks to everyone who have signed up to join this upcoming BPA sponsored PBEM tournament. Matchups will be set up shortly and the tournament will begin by July 1, 2013.
Although I am closing signups today, I will accept further signups as long as participants are able to complete their initial Swiss games by the end of the Swiss rounds on October 31. New signups will be matched up with each other or an eliminator if necessary.
I am soliciting volunteers to be eliminators. Each eliminator will get to add in the area ratings of their played and/or defeated opponents for tie-breakers determination.
If you would like to be an eliminator, leave a comment on this post. Eliminators will be assigned in order to new unmatched up players first until no unmatched up player exists.
Check on the Strategy articles link in the header to get ready for your games.
Here’s the current tournament format. It will be a 6 round Swiss-Elim format. The first round will be a Swiss round where each player will play 2 games, one as each side, with the top winners progressing to the single elimination rounds.
Preliminary Round 1 (4 months) Jul 13 to Oct 13
Players will play 2 games during this round, 1 as the CSA and 1 as the Union.
Matchups will be randomly assigned during this preliminary round.
Top 32 players advance based on # of wins. Win both games to guarantee advancing.
Tie breakers will be applied in order of the following:
1) Sum of AREA ratings of opponents played
2) Sum of AREA ratings of opponents defeated
3) Random dice roll
Top 32 players will then be seeded from 1 to 32 by AREA ratings as of June 15, 2013 with unrated players assigned a value of 5000. Seed 1 plays Seed 32, etc. Exceptions will be made if players met in the preliminary rounds already. Once Single Elimination starts, players in brackets who complete their game earlier can proceed to their next opponent if that opponent has already completed their game.
Match- ups will be realigned if players drop out during the preliminary round so that every continuing player has to play at least two games during the preliminary rounds.
Single Elimination Round 1 (3 months) between 32 players Nov 13 to Jan 14
Once single elimination, drop outs will not be replaced and their opponents will be given byes.
Single Elimination Round 2 (3 months) between 16 players Feb 14 to Apr 14
Semi-Finals (3 months) between 8 players May 14 to Jul 14
Quarter Finals ( 3 months) Aug 14 to Oct 14
Finals ( 3 months) Nov 14 to Jan 15
